"Ryan Ross... Halcyon is here for you."
― Rose

''See you in Hell'' by Epic Score (Plays when alarms are raised)

The Financier was released on January 29th, 2019 as Public Early Access offering only Rookie, Professional and Operative. Elite and Legend were added the following day. It was the fourth mission to be released and is the eighth mission chronologically.

Overview[]

"We've traced payments from Jackdaw's new operations back to one of his investors. He almost never leaves his New York penthouse, so that's where we're hitting him. The man's name is Ryan Ross. He's rich, reclusive, and paranoid; and for good reason. Halcyon is coming for you, Mr. Ross."
― Mission briefing from Wren

In the mission, The Freelancer is tasked with kidnapping or eliminating Ryan Ross, a financial backer of Phoenix and a high priority target. They are also tasked with the retrieval of past transactions in the form of a hard drive locked in a wallsafe.

The map is a penthouse on the top of a New York highrise and takes place during the night. It is split off into two main sections: the inside building and the outside walkways. The outside wraps all the way from the spawn over to the opposite side. You start off on the right end of the outer walkway. Stairs lead up to the upper floor and there is also a door that leads inside. Straight ahead is a walkway that leads to the outside of the kitchen area which contains one door and 2 large windows. The third side has stairs to the upper floor and another set of stairs in the back corner which lead to a door to get inside. The upper floor has a small separate closed off bedroom and a helicopter pad.

The inside also has 2 floors. The lower one has a living room with an adjacent kitchen. A small room is attached to the kitchen which can be a potential panic room spawn. On the opposite side of the lobby are the stairs to the upper floor, a small den and a bedroom with another potential panic room spawn. The upstairs have a small balcony viewing over the living room and a walkway to the helicopter pad. At the back there are also 3 rooms, the rightmost of which is a potential panic room spawn.

All the inside rooms can contain paintings, which may or may not be hiding the wallsafe behind them. Players can interact with the paintings to remove them from the wall to see if the safe is behind them or not. One of the rooms will contain a laptop, which can be hacked to reveal both the combination and location of the safe. The outside walkways have cameras on Professional+ and 1-3 power boxes depending on the difficulty.

NPCs[]

Stealth[]

There are only 2 types of NPCs in this mission: Ryan Ross and his bodyguards. The bodyguards have a higher detection rate than the normal guards in other missions. They roam both the inside and outside and will stop at patrolling points for much longer than guards in other missions. You can take out 3 guards without any penalties; taking out more will cause the guards to start a search in 1 minute and sound the alarm 30 seconds after. Interrogating a held up guard has a chance to reveal either the wallsafe combination or the safe's location, depending on the difficulty. Guards in this mission are aggressive guards, which means they will always pull out their gun when fully alerted.

Rookie Professional Operative Elite Legend
Bodyguards (inside) 3 3 4 4 5
Bodyguards (outside) 2 3 3 3 3
Ryan Ross 1 1 1 1 1

Loud[]

During loud, the assaulting enemies are SWAT. They will spawn at various corners of the map and on the roof of the penthouse. Snipers will spawn on the buildings surrounding the penthouse on difficulties above Rookie. SWAT will not breach the panic room if you are inside.

Ryan Ross RossBP[]

Ryan Ross is a special NPC found in this mission. He roams the inside (with a personal bodyguard following him on the Legend difficulty). If Ryan is killed or knocked out, the alarm will sound after 1 to 2 minutes depending on the difficulty. If the alarm sounds while Ryan is conscious, he will run to his panic room, lock himself in, and pull out a Raven. Ryan cannot be intimidated by shouts. Interrogating Ryan will reveal both the combination and location of the wallsafe.

Mission Progression[]

The mission has two main objectives: Ryan Ross and the hard drive. They can both be done independently both on stealth and loud.

Stealth[]

"We got our entry point. Let's go."
― The Freelancer

Before entering the inside, you have to disable the door/window alarms by rewiring the power boxes found outside. After completing both of the main objectives, you can escape at the spawn.

You have to either bring Ryan Ross to the extraction zone or kill him. You can hold up Ryan to move him and interrogate him to learn the safe location and combination. If you knock Ryan out, you can bring him to the extraction zone in a body bag; this still counts as bringing him to the extraction zone alive.

Besides Ryan, you also have to get his hard drive, which is hidden in a wallsafe. The safe can be found randomly behind a painting, but will never be behind the first painting taken down unless you've obtained intel on the safe's location first. The safe can be drilled, cracked by a Thief, or opened if you obtained the combination from a guard, Ryan, or the laptop.

Loud[]

"Why am I hearing an alarm?
"That[sic] the uh...victory alarm."

Rose and The Freelancer

Loud has the same objectives as stealth with a few minor differences. Ryan will run to his panic room found at one of three spawns. You can open the panic room by drilling it, blowtorching it, hacking the timelock using a Keycard Scrambler, or blowing it up with 2 C4/Thumper rounds. Alternatively, you can also kill Ryan by shooting through the wall above the timelock. Note, however, if the wallsafe is in the panic room, you will need to open it anyways. Once the door is opened, you can knock Ryan out or kill him. Ryan will also arm himself with a Raven once he reaches the panic room. The wallsafe functions the same way as in stealth.

Once you have bagged/killed Ryan and obtained the hard drive, you need to start the helicopter. It can be started 5 seconds after you have neutralized Ryan and opened the safe. While you do need the hard drive (and Ryan's body bag, if you knock him out) to escape, you don't need them to start the helicopter. The helicopter needs to run for 2 minutes 30 seconds before you can escape, depending on the difficulty. If a SWAT unit reaches the helicopter, they can turn it off to start reverting progression at the same rate it would normally be gained (if the helicopter is turned off for 30 seconds, it will have lost 30 seconds of progress).

Trivia[]

  • The map of this mission also appears as a playable map in another one of Freefall Softworks' games, Deception, under the name Apartment.
  • A Golden Sawblade called the Goldsaw could be found during the Entry Point Anniversary 2019 Event, when the player would finish the puzzle in the outside bedroom on the second level of The Financier along with the Paintball Mask. However, the Goldsaw itself could not be picked up, saying "You can't lift this".
  • Throwing Ryan Ross off the building (while he is unconscious in a body bag) will give you a unique line from Rose.
    • "Was that" "Did you just..." "ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!"
  • If the panic room door closes while you are inside, you can open it by interacting with it. This was likely added to prevent players from getting stuck in the panic room and being softlocked.
  • On May 5th, 2022, the original loud soundtrack See You In Hell was taken off of the Roblox asset catalogue due to copyright violations. It was then replaced with Mindwinder (b).
    • On August 16th, 2022, See You In Hell was added back in the mission.
  • The Financier doesn't have an escape point for hostages.
